Spreading Awareness & Helping Others with EDS & POTS
Is it too late to say Happy New Year? It’s still just about January so I think it’s okay 😛 I’m allowed to say it because this is my first blog post of 2017! Hope everyone is having a good year so far. I’ve been busy this year. The first 10 days disappeared with movies, work, molly walking, and seeing family and friends. On the 11th I had my first Blood Patch Operation which had a much bigger affect on me than I thought it would meaning I was flat in bed for 3 days, unable to walk properly for a week and I’m still relying on my stick to get me around outside. And I’ve had to cancel going to see Busted with my brother and best friend because I’m just not going to manage standing which is a real shame as the tickets were a birthday present and I was looking forward to. For the last two weeks I’ve spent a lot of time on the sofa watching films, Once Upon a Time and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. I’ve had a lot of extra pain in my back and have found it difficult not being able/allowed to bend, stretch or lift at all. Not being able to bake or cook because of it has really sucked! But mum has helped me make my Granola so I’ve at least had yummy food for breakfast. Being so sedentary has really badly affected my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome causing major flare ups in my shoulders, knees and hips. And the cold weather outside has not helped either. Unfortunately the surgery has also not worked as well as I hoped. I think it has helped my headaches a little but as I sit here typing with an awful one I know it’s not quite done the trick to fix my CSF leak so they are repeating the surgery in February (which we expected) in the hopes of further improving my symptoms. You can keep up to date with my day to day activities on Instagram & Twitter ( @1nvisibl3Girl) as this year I’ve decided to attempt the #pictureadaychallenge . The night before my surgery I also wrote a new article for The Mighty about the difficulties in receiving any kind of treatment when you have a Chronic Illness and you can find that article Here.
But I wanted to tell you about slightly more exciting things. You many remember that in my post before Christmas I mentioned that my friend Dan Parker and I were going to be contestants on a new TV game show hosted by Noel Edmonds and earlier this week we did exactly that. Probably not the best idea 10 days after my op but I knew I could be sat down the whole time, it was something to look forward to and we had absolutely nothing to loose so off to Bristol we went. Dan was very sweet and was my bag carrier the whole 4 days we ended up being there. The hotel was lovely, wish we’d have got time to have used the spa and wish I was able to swim. The first night was freezing which was not good for my hands or feet but every night my room was on a higher floor and slowly got warmer each time 😛 The restaurant were great too I wasn’t expecting much but I managed to have a lovely sweet potato and black bean chilli with rice. On the 3rd night the host took pity on me having to have the same dinner again and had the chef make another dish suitable for my Gluten free, Dairy free, vegetarian diet and brought out a lovely Nasi Goreng with Peanuts which took me right back to my time in Bali. I was very impressed. I have never seen a TV set before let alone been on a TV show so it was a really interesting experience. We went through briefing, wardrobe, make up and spent a lot of time in the green room. I knew there would be a lot of waiting around in TV but I didn’t realise quite how much. The sitting all day was awful for my hips and shoulders and on the second full day of waiting I ended up lying across sofas and floors just to get comfortable. Waiting around can be really tiring as well especially when early starts are involved; being up, medicated, dressed and fully made up and on a mini bus by ten past seven was a huge challenge for me and not one I could repeat in a hurry. But the one thing I didn’t even think of in TV is the amount of wonderful people you get to meet who come from all different walks of life. We met some lovely couples from policemen to events organisers and serial game show contestants. We were in a group of about 12 (6 couples) for certain call times. A group of completely random people but you’ll never guess who I met? (I mean its not like a haven’t mentioned it in the title or anything) Another lady with EDS! I think we were both as surprised as each other as we discovered we were fellow Zebras just as I had been telling another couple about my ‘rare’ connective tissue disorder. She was on crutches, and had been for a year due to a bad knee dislocation and I was still reliant on my stick from my op. It was great to go through this new experience for both of us with someone else who totally understood the pain and fatigue involved in waiting around, sitting in one place and not getting enough exercise. We also ended up being on the same programme and talking to Noel about our condition on the show which will hopefully be shown and received well and raise a little bit of awareness for EDS which would be great. I did , however have a not so great moment but the mixture of an early morning, extreme fatigue, difficult medication management due to a 5:30am start and the adrenaline rush of playing the game sent my POTs crazy and meant my legs started getting pretty uncontrollable shakes after topping up on meds, having some grapes and lots and lots of water in the green room I recovered well enough to carry on recording after the break. The show will be aired at some point over the spring or summer and will keep you updated as to when its on. It looks like its going to make an awesome show and I was really glad to be involved in it.
It’s not long until I’ll be having my next operation and it’s difficult as I will only just start to be feeling back to my level of normal by the time I have to start the whole process again and it’d difficult knowing having another painful procedure which is in very recent memory but at least this time it will be easier as I know exactly what to expect and hopefully it will give me some more relief from my head pain. 🙂

Abbie Chatfield has revealed the sexual act she would never engage in with
her partner, Adam Hyde.
The FBoy Island star, 29, recently opened up
about the launch of her ‘kink kit’ sex toys and admitted
that when it comes to bedroom fun, it’s strictly a two-person affair.
While she does fantasise about having a ménage à trois, Abbie admitted that it’s something she
could never actually go through with.
‘I have a fantasy about, like, seeing my partner f*** someone else,
‘ she told News Corp.
‘But I think I know in my heart that I don’t actually want to see it.
I just want to talk about it like, that’s something that I find hot.
‘But in reality, would I want to see that? Maybe, probably not.’
Abbie Chatfield has revealed the sex act she refuses to do with partner Adam Hyde
While she does fantasise about having a ménage à trois, Abbie admitted that
it’s something she could never actually go through with.
Pictured with boyfriend Adam Hyde
‘Like, whenever we get to a point where we’re like, “let’s have a threesome!”,
I’m like, “I don’t actually know if I’m gonna want to see that”,’ she
continued.
Elsewhere in the discussion, Abbie revealed
that her Peking Duk frontman partner was the perfect ‘product tester’ for the kit.
‘He had feedback about the length of the flogger,’
she said, referring to the kit’s double-ended paddle.
‘It was a little bit too short after using that on me.’
Abbie’s racy admissions come after she recently urged women to withhold sex from
their Donald Trump-supporting partners.
In a lengthy Instagram post, in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the
US presidential election, the reality star told women they should refuse to date or have sex
which anyone who supports his victory.
Alongside a series of posts from her story, she wrote: ‘IF THEY
WANT TO TAKE AWAY REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOMS THEN DO NOT LET THEM ENTER
YOUR BODY.’
‘I’m done with the idea that men who support Trump (or Andrew Tate) are just ‘lost’
and we should have empathy for them. They are gleefully posting threats of
violence.’

‘They are happy that women’s rights are going to be stripped.
They are laughing at our tears. They already have a SLOGAN in ‘your

Abbie then told women to not let men with these views
‘near you’ because they are ‘dangerous’.
‘Ask them about their views! They are dangerous and they don’t deserve your presence,
emotional or domestic labour. If your partner was in support of Trump OR EVEN APATHETIC, STOP DOING ANYTHING FOR THEM THAT PATRIARCHY EXPECTS OF YOU!!
They are NOT entitled to your body or time.
‘If they see you as a human they wouldn’t need this explained to them.
DUMP. THEM.’
She also claimed Trump’s presidency ‘will bring more violence towards women as men do not care about us’.
‘So stop giving them the perks of a relationship
with you. It isn’t your job. Be with a man who can take care
of himself, who won’t expect sex and who actually sees you
as a human being.’
Abbie’s comments echo sentiments from the 4B movement
which sprung up in South Korea in the mid 2010’s.
The radical feminist movement, calls for proponents to not date, get married,
have sex, or have children with men.
Following the US presidential election some American women declared
solidarity with the movement is a form of protest against Donald Trump, and his role in the
overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter
to choose between an immigration crackdown and reproductive rights
As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire, each major candidate has leaned heavily on a favorite theme — abortion rights for
Democrat Kamala Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.
In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot
peak, with both topics the subject of fiercely debated ballot referendums.
And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President
Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500 votes — every
ballot truly will count.
In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to
persuade voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution —
and, while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”
Une pancarte barrée du slogan “L’indifférence aux élections est dangereuse”, à
Tucson, en Arizona, le 16 octobre 2024
Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights,
Ireland, a registered nurse, has worked in several
states where abortion is banned or severely limited.
Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences for women having problem pregnancies or
carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse to treat them.
“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” she told AFP.
– ‘Abortion is murder’ –
As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she noted, particularly to young people
who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the
three justices who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.
Donald Trump lors d’un meeting à Tempe, en Arizona, le 24 octobre 2024
“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland said.
But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old college
student.
“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions, he conceded,
“but that’s very small.”
He also worries about the flow of undocumented
migrants that have entered the country from Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he said.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to let local law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected
of having entered the country illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police who work for the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,”
Lopez said.
– Mixed impact –
The major political parties see the competing referendums as offering an opportunity
to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the very heart of the two presidential campaigns.
Anti-abortion activists demonstrate outside a clinic in Phoenix, Arizona on April 18, 2024
But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White House that activists hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona,
with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support and both appear likely to
pass.
So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,”
said Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to
bring Trump back to the White House, Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs. Republican issue, the Republican Party includes
“a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,”
she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language on the Arizona ballot question finding support not
just among Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said John Kavanagh,
a Republican and an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise to
maintain the partial closing of the border Biden ordered in recent months.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday signalled a slower than anticipated U.S.
roll out of its IQOS heated tobacco device, a choice
analysts said was positive for its competitors in the short
term.
The New York-listed Marlboro maker also said it aims for more than two thirds of
its net revenues to come from “smoke-free” products by 2030, up
from 50% in 2025, as it tries to transform its image from a cigarette purveyor
to a driver of the shift to healthier alternatives.
Investors have been closely watching IQOS’ entry into the U.S., the
world’s largest market for nicotine products, and had been expecting it from May 2024 next year.
Reuters reported on Wednesday that PMI is hiring lobbyists across a host of
key U.S. states ahead of the launch.
Chief Executive Jacek Olczak said IQOS would launch in four cities in two unnamed U.S.
states from 2024, but a national launch would only come
after PMI receives approval to sell the latest version, known as IQOS ILUMA.
The company was planning to apply for approval in October and expected it from 2025, he continued.
“We need to warm up the tyres,” he said of the initial launch, which
would help PMI fine tune its approach.
A national roll-out of ILUMA would follow but in phases, he continued, adding launching
in 10 states in the first year would make sense.
Meaningful traction for PMI’s heated tobacco products in the U.S.
“now looks delayed until ILUMA,” Owen Bennett, equity analyst
at Jefferies, said in a note, adding this was a positive for
PMI’s rivals.
Olczak also signalled that PMI’s push into non-nicotine products
was no longer a priority. It recently scrapped an ambition for $1 billion in net revenues to come from sales of such products by 2025.
Instead, PMI will focus its resources on IQOS and nicotine pouch brand
ZYN, Olczak said, adding it had been too optimistic around acceptance of big tobacco companies operating outside of nicotine.
PMI also announced updated medium-term targets including for revenue and earnings per share, and ambitious
volume targets for IQOS and ZYN.
ZYN and other oral nicotine products in the U.S. would help drive an expected $2
billion in revenues there in 2024, even before IQOS ILUMA, executives said.
PMI shares were up 1.5% on Thursday. (Reporting by Emma Rumney

March 24 (Reuters) – Marlboro maker Philip Morris International
Inc is working on options to exit the Russian market,
citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and operating environment in the country
following its invasion of Ukraine.
The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue from Russia in 2021, said on Thursday it has discontinued sale of several cigarette products and canceled all
product launches for the year in Russia.
It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks,
heated tobacco units intended for use with its IQOS ILUMA devices, as well as related investment of $150 million.
Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and decided to scale down manufacturing operations in the country.
Rival Imperial Brands too has started talks to transfer its Russian business to a local third party, joining BAT in exiting the sanction-hit country.

LONDON, April 29 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International’s goals for heated tobacco in the United States are reachable, analysts and investors say, even though rivals see
limited potential in a market where vaping dominates.
The world’s biggest tobacco company by market value will launch
its flagship heated tobacco device IQOS in the U.S.
in the second quarter, developing the brand pretty
much from scratch.
IQOS is already the top selling heated tobacco device globally and is central
to PMI’s efforts to transform its image from a cigarette maker to a company driving the shift to healthier
options.
In the U.S., heated tobacco is currently almost non-existent in what is one of the largest markets globally for alternative nicotine
products.
PMI wants to get a 10% share of total U.S. cigarette and heated
tobacco volumes within around five years of it launching the latest version of its device, not expected until at least 2025.
To do this would mean switching some 2.8 million U.S.
smokers to IQOS, based on a Reuters analysis of PMI numbers and Barclays
forecasts.
Rival British American Tobacco has said it does not see huge
potential for heated tobacco in the U.S. where vaping is dominant.
Two analysts and one investor in PMI told Reuters they see an opportunity for
PMI in the U.S.
“We are all going to be watching this test,” said Bonnie Herzog,
analyst at Goldman Sachs.
PMI has poured most of the more than $12.5 billion it has spent so far on smoking alternatives into IQOS’ development.
Heated tobacco devices heat up sticks of ground up tobacco without burning them in an attempt
to avoid the harmful chemicals released via combustion.
Its U.S. roll out will be a key test of the device’s ability to
appeal to smokers across different markets.
If successful in the U.S., PMI would get a substantial base of new, profitable users
and a hefty income stream. PMI estimates the
total U.S. industry profit pool at around $20
billion.
PMI spokesperson Corey Henry told Reuters the company has
every reason to believe it can replicate successes seen elsewhere
with IQOS in the United States.
“In every market where we have launched IQOS, we’ve heard the same song from competitors. However it isn’t long before those same competitors jump into the category,” he said.
TRACK RECORD
Reuters used PMI’s most recent annual figures
on total IQOS stick sales and total users to estimate that users
on average consume around 4,379 sticks per year.
At that rate, PMI would need around 2.8 million IQOS users in the U.S.
to sell the number of sticks required to achieve its 10% market share goal by 2030.
Barclays forecasts U.S. cigarette and heated tobacco annual sales at around 122.79 billion sticks in 2030.
In Japan, PMI’s largest IQOS market by shipment volume,
there are 8.5 million users, making the U.S. target look manageable.
But vaping is largely absent in Japan due to regulations.
Globally there is little evidence that high vaping rates hurt heated tobacco take-up, research by Bernstein analyst Callum Elliott showed.
“Maybe the 10% … target really could be achievable?” he wrote in a note.
Brett Cooper, managing partner at equity research firm Consumer Edge, said PMI can use its track
record of IQOS success in several countries to help it hit its U.S.
goals.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorised PMI to market IQOS as reducing
exposure to harmful chemicals versus cigarettes.
The FDA has not done the same for vapes.
As a result, IQOS could have lower taxes, which would help to ease its relatively high price tag.
The most recent IQOS device costs 109 pounds ($136) in the United Kingdom, where the packs of
tobacco sticks cost around five pounds.
PMI’s former parent, Altria, previously sold IQOS on a limited scale in the U.S.
until 2021. Under Altria, a pack of 20 tobacco sticks cost roughly equivalent to a packet of Marlboro cigarettes.
Phil Biedron, who worked as an IQOS salesman in Atlanta, Georgia, said price was
a key deterrent for those who tried IQOS.
But generally, the device was well received, said Biedron, who worked at a
marketing agency hired by Altria.
Stefano Volpetti, PMI’s president of smoke-free inhaled products, said the company
would not use price as a lever to grow sales early on.
“Price, at the beginning of establishing a category, is not part of the consideration,” he said, adding PMI would follow the same approach to pricing in the U.S.
as it had elsewhere.
HUGE PROFIT POOL
Altria used sales people, as well as IQOS stores and pop-up kiosks, to promote the product in the U.S.
– a strategy PMI is unlikely to deviate from significantly, given it is similar to its approach in other markets.
Cooper from Consumer Edge said raising awareness
of IQOS in the U.S. from almost zero while operating within strict advertising laws
relative to other consumer products will be no mean feat,
and costly.
But there are reasons why PMI, which purchased the U.S.
IQOS rights from Altria back in 2022, may have more success.
The company is currently preparing to launch IQOS in Austin, Texas, where it was
not sold by Altria.
Sales of products like IQOS can eat into cigarette revenues as smokers
switch, meaning companies have to balance the success of heated tobacco
with the threat this might pose to their core tobacco business.
Crucially, PMI can be more aggressive in the U.S. because since it
was spun off from Altria it has no U.S. cigarette business.
Sean King, equity analyst at top-20 PMI investor Columbia Threadneedle, said:
“I believe [its targets] are achievable.”
With an estimated $20 billion profit pool up for grabs and no cigarette revenues to
worry about, PMI can put its firepower behind IQOS success, he
said. ($1 = 0.8022 pounds)

BANGKOK, Nov 30 (Reuters) – The death toll from the worst floods in decades in southern Thailand and northern Malaysia climbed
to at least 12 on Saturday, authorities said, as
tens of thousands of people were evacuated due to rising water levels in the past three days.
In southern Thailand, the floods have impacted nearly 534,000 households, with
the death toll climbing to nine from four reported
on Friday and leaving thousands in 200 temporary shelters that have been set up in affected areas, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said.
The Chana district of Songkhla province suffered the worst
floods in 50 years, with video footage showing people being
carried out to trucks from their homes inundated by a torrent of
flood water.
Another video footage showed rescuers in Sateng Nok District of Yala province carrying a baby out from the roof of a home hit by the floods on Saturday.
In neighbouring Malaysia, the floods have impacted nearly 139,000 people in nine states, leaving three dead since
Friday, according to the National Disaster Command Centre.
Thailand’s Meteorological Department said that several areas in southern Thailand
can expect more heavy rain on Saturday and warn of
more flash floods in effected areas.
Neighbouring Philippines was hit by six typhoons in just month in November, causing
widespread devastation.

Joaquin Phoenix and his fiancée Rooney Mara put on unified front when they arrived
in Venice, Italy, on Monday.
The 49-year-old Napoleon star and the 39-year-old Social Network actress
pictured in the tourist destination’s airport ahead of the high-profile Venice Film Festival.
They were spotted getting around the picturesque city in one of its iconic water taxis.
Joaquin was set to make a major appearance ahead of the premiere of his
dark comic book film Joker: Folie à Deux.
Fans and critics are getting a look at the film after the actor made
himself persona non grata among independent filmmakers when he dropped out of acclaimed director Todd Haynes’
untitled gay romance just five days before production was to begin.

arrived in Venice, Italy, on Monday. They were pictured at the airport before heading to a water taxi
The two were set to attend the Venice Film Festival, where Phoenix’s
highly anticipated sequel Joker: Folie à Deux is premiering
The couple appeared to be joined by their youngest child, whose name has not yet been publicly
revealed.
Rooney held the little one close to her in a striped blanket that was wrapped around her shoulders.
The loved-up couple were dressed casually for their arrival in Venice.
Joaquin looked cool and relaxed in a plain black T-shirt that highlighted his toned arms, which he paired with black
track pants rolled up at the hems.
He matched them with tall black socks and low-key gray sneakers.
The Academy Award winner wore his graying hair
in a messy mop contrasting his black glasses, and he also had on a black backpack.
Rooney had on a black blouse and a long black jacket while wrapping her blanket around her torso over it.
She kept things simple with high-waisted blue jeans and black flats.
Her brunette locks were tied back in a bun, and she covered up with black
oval-shaped sunglasses.
The Her costars have been together since 2016, and they share two young children together.
They welcomed their first child, River — named after Joaquin’s late brother River Phoenix —
in August of 2020, and Rooney gave birth to their second child in June of
this year, but few details have been revealed about the younger
child.
Joaquin was focusing on his likely blockbuster Joker: Folie à Deux following the controversy over his departure from an indie romance drama just five days before it
was to begin production.
The shocking move left director Todd Haynes and indie superproducer
Christine Vachon scrambling to find a replacement for the lead role, which was ultimately
unsuccessful due to the extraordinarily short time before filming.
Vachon later called the experience a ‘nightmare,’ but she defended the film from critics who claimed only a gay actor should have been cast in Phoenix’s role.
She reminded the writers of rude social media comments that Phoenix was the person who brought the project to her and Haynes,
meaning he couldn’t be separated from the film.
Vachon also defended her production company’s record of hiring actors
in the LGBTQ community, and she said that the criticism was only making the ‘terrible situation even worse.’
Phoenix and Top Gun: Maverick actor Danny Ramirez, 31, were to play onscreen lovers in the 1930s-set
film, which was said to include ‘explicit sexual content.’

Phoenix was intimately connected to the production, as he reportedly developed the movie’s screenplay with Haynes and Jon Raymond.
A source claimed to Variety that the star dropped
out amid trepidation over the film’s graphic sex scenes.
However, others disputed that characterization and noted that he played a major role in getting the film
into production in the first place.
Phoenix has reportedly suffered from cold feet on multiple previous projects that
he ultimately continued with.
