Spreading Awareness & Helping Others with EDS & POTS
Is it too late to say Happy New Year? It’s still just about January so I think it’s okay 😛 I’m allowed to say it because this is my first blog post of 2017! Hope everyone is having a good year so far. I’ve been busy this year. The first 10 days disappeared with movies, work, molly walking, and seeing family and friends. On the 11th I had my first Blood Patch Operation which had a much bigger affect on me than I thought it would meaning I was flat in bed for 3 days, unable to walk properly for a week and I’m still relying on my stick to get me around outside. And I’ve had to cancel going to see Busted with my brother and best friend because I’m just not going to manage standing which is a real shame as the tickets were a birthday present and I was looking forward to. For the last two weeks I’ve spent a lot of time on the sofa watching films, Once Upon a Time and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. I’ve had a lot of extra pain in my back and have found it difficult not being able/allowed to bend, stretch or lift at all. Not being able to bake or cook because of it has really sucked! But mum has helped me make my Granola so I’ve at least had yummy food for breakfast. Being so sedentary has really badly affected my Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome causing major flare ups in my shoulders, knees and hips. And the cold weather outside has not helped either. Unfortunately the surgery has also not worked as well as I hoped. I think it has helped my headaches a little but as I sit here typing with an awful one I know it’s not quite done the trick to fix my CSF leak so they are repeating the surgery in February (which we expected) in the hopes of further improving my symptoms. You can keep up to date with my day to day activities on Instagram & Twitter ( @1nvisibl3Girl) as this year I’ve decided to attempt the #pictureadaychallenge . The night before my surgery I also wrote a new article for The Mighty about the difficulties in receiving any kind of treatment when you have a Chronic Illness and you can find that article Here.
But I wanted to tell you about slightly more exciting things. You many remember that in my post before Christmas I mentioned that my friend Dan Parker and I were going to be contestants on a new TV game show hosted by Noel Edmonds and earlier this week we did exactly that. Probably not the best idea 10 days after my op but I knew I could be sat down the whole time, it was something to look forward to and we had absolutely nothing to loose so off to Bristol we went. Dan was very sweet and was my bag carrier the whole 4 days we ended up being there. The hotel was lovely, wish we’d have got time to have used the spa and wish I was able to swim. The first night was freezing which was not good for my hands or feet but every night my room was on a higher floor and slowly got warmer each time 😛 The restaurant were great too I wasn’t expecting much but I managed to have a lovely sweet potato and black bean chilli with rice. On the 3rd night the host took pity on me having to have the same dinner again and had the chef make another dish suitable for my Gluten free, Dairy free, vegetarian diet and brought out a lovely Nasi Goreng with Peanuts which took me right back to my time in Bali. I was very impressed. I have never seen a TV set before let alone been on a TV show so it was a really interesting experience. We went through briefing, wardrobe, make up and spent a lot of time in the green room. I knew there would be a lot of waiting around in TV but I didn’t realise quite how much. The sitting all day was awful for my hips and shoulders and on the second full day of waiting I ended up lying across sofas and floors just to get comfortable. Waiting around can be really tiring as well especially when early starts are involved; being up, medicated, dressed and fully made up and on a mini bus by ten past seven was a huge challenge for me and not one I could repeat in a hurry. But the one thing I didn’t even think of in TV is the amount of wonderful people you get to meet who come from all different walks of life. We met some lovely couples from policemen to events organisers and serial game show contestants. We were in a group of about 12 (6 couples) for certain call times. A group of completely random people but you’ll never guess who I met? (I mean its not like a haven’t mentioned it in the title or anything) Another lady with EDS! I think we were both as surprised as each other as we discovered we were fellow Zebras just as I had been telling another couple about my ‘rare’ connective tissue disorder. She was on crutches, and had been for a year due to a bad knee dislocation and I was still reliant on my stick from my op. It was great to go through this new experience for both of us with someone else who totally understood the pain and fatigue involved in waiting around, sitting in one place and not getting enough exercise. We also ended up being on the same programme and talking to Noel about our condition on the show which will hopefully be shown and received well and raise a little bit of awareness for EDS which would be great. I did , however have a not so great moment but the mixture of an early morning, extreme fatigue, difficult medication management due to a 5:30am start and the adrenaline rush of playing the game sent my POTs crazy and meant my legs started getting pretty uncontrollable shakes after topping up on meds, having some grapes and lots and lots of water in the green room I recovered well enough to carry on recording after the break. The show will be aired at some point over the spring or summer and will keep you updated as to when its on. It looks like its going to make an awesome show and I was really glad to be involved in it.
It’s not long until I’ll be having my next operation and it’s difficult as I will only just start to be feeling back to my level of normal by the time I have to start the whole process again and it’d difficult knowing having another painful procedure which is in very recent memory but at least this time it will be easier as I know exactly what to expect and hopefully it will give me some more relief from my head pain. 🙂
Australian politicians are almost always opting to fly
with Qantas on taxpayer-funded trips, despite Virgin offering cheaper tickets.
Federal MPs flew with the national carrier for 80 per cent of work trips last year despite it not
always being the cheapest route, according to travel data provided to the government.
While politicians and their staffers are required
to book the cheapest flight, it also has to be the most efficient, with Qantas offering the most
routes between major cities.
MPs are banned from accruing frequent flyer points on taxpayer-funded trips like ordinary Aussies can, but they can can receive lifetime status
credits, which allows access to airport lounges and flight upgrades.
‘How else can one explain the extraordinary dominance of Qantas
in securing bookings by parliamentarians
and their staff?’ Myriam Robin wrote in an opinion piece
for the Australian Financial Review.
‘There’s nothing like accruing status credits on someone else’s dime.’
Transport Minister Catherine King has since committed to
a review of flight bookings by government officials which will be conducted by the Department of
Finance this year, despite there being just two months left of 2024.
Politicians’ preference for Qantas may also be put down to the airline’s exclusive
invite-only ‘Chairman’s Lounge’.

The Flying Kanga-RORT – why you’re footing the bill as airlines wine and dine pollies in VIP
club
Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single
federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the club.
Qantas and the Albanese government have both denied the airline enjoys any disproportionate
level of influence over the country’s political
classes.
A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both the House of
Representatives and the Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish, all-inclusive lounge.
The high profile ranks of government giftees
include Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as well as every
member of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers.
While most politicians declared their Qantas’ privileges as a ‘gift’, Labor
MP Marion Scrymgour listed her membership as her ‘Chairman Lounge entitlement’.
Daily Mail Australia in August revealed that nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of Qantas’ exclusive Chairman’s Lounge.
And it’s not just politicians on the take, with more than 60 MPs –
including Marles, Chalmers, King, Bill Shorten, Zali Steggall and Tanya Plibersek
– disclosing their spouses have also been granted unfettered, independent access
to Qantas’ luxurious members only lounge.
Often touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the
Chairman’s Lounge has long been veiled in secrecy.
Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent
VIP clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports – are suitably discreet.
Though, once inside, the designer lounges are immediately more ostentatious, with free à la carte fine dining, table service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and a discreet
army of dedicated lounge attendants.
Membership to the club is ‘priceless’ – it cannot be bought for any amount of money nor obtained via any amount of frequent flyers points.
Instead, each member is hand-picked and approved by the company’s chief executive
and chairman.

Celine Dion’s showstopping ‘live’ performance at the start of
the Paris 2024 Olympics was pre-recorded, it was claimed in France today.
Millions were moved to tears when the 56-year-old Canadian superstar sang Hymne à L’amour (Hymn to Love) in front
of the Eiffel Tower.
It was the culmination of a lavish Opening Ceremony mainly held along the banks of the River Seine – one that President Emmanuel Macron said was the
’emotional highlight’ of the sporting extravaganza.
But on Friday, the highly respected Liberation newspaper quoted multiple music industry experts who said the July
26th performance was ‘without a shadow of a doubt’
pre-recorded.

In turn, representatives for the Paris 2024 organisers

insisting that the performance was indeed a live one.
‘What we heard on TV was a corrected playback,’ composer and
performer Etienne Guéreau told Liberation.

Celine Dion, 56, gets SOAKED with Gatorade
In comments that were republished across French media, a sound engineer who asked to remain anonymous
said: ‘It was 100% playback, you can hear it from the first notes.’
Others said it was ‘without a shadow of a doubt’ pre-recorded, as was a performance by Ms Dion in rehearsals.
A YouTuber musician who uses the name Wings of Pegasus said the rehearsal and actual performance also sounded exactly
the same – something that is technically impossible, as there will always
be variations between any two versions of a live song.
The Olympics performance was meant to be a triumphant comeback for Ms Dion, who has been battling the incurable
stiff-person syndrome.
Hymne à L’amour was chosen because it was originally sung by the late French music
icon Edith Piaf.
Thousands of fans took to social media to praise Ms Dion, whose
greatest hits include ‘My Heart Will Go On’, the theme from the Titanic movie.

It was in 2022 that Ms Dion disclosed that she had been diagnosed
with the neurological disorder stiff-person syndrome which causes
muscles to stiffen and spasm.

Despite heavy rain, many sat through multiple acts, including a pre-recorded one by Lady Gaga, which

But Ms Dion’s performance was meant to be a live

On Television, forensic scientists make arrests and query and interrogate suspects, but in reality, these scientists spend most of their time within the lab: They collect physical proof (reminiscent of fingerprints, blood and weapons) in an effort to assemble DNA and ballistic data from the crime scene and analyze that proof within the lab.

Lisa Vanderpump has purchased a $5 million Las Vegas mansion.
The 64-year-old Bravo beauty decided to buy the Sin City abode after taking an in-person tour of the premises,
which is situated on a golf course, sources told TMZ on Monday.
The reality star-restaurateur visited the home following production of the second season of her Hulu series
Vanderpump Villa, closing on the transaction in a three-day span, insiders told the outlet.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum’s home in Las Vegas includes amenities such as a large pool and incredible views
of the surrounding desert area, according to
the outlet.
The English socialite has been busy decorating
the mansion and has ‘already settled in,’ insiders told the outlet.

SHANGHAI, Dec 6 (Reuters) – The yuan was little changed on Friday against the
dollar, but is headed for its tenth straight weekly loss amid concerns that new tariff threatened by President-elect Donald Trump will heighten strains on the struggling Chinese economy.
Analysts expect the dollar to remain firm as Trump’s policies are expected to drive up U.S.
inflation, but they believe Beijing will prevent the yuan from falling
too much. “We anticipate some depreciation pressure in an expected strong dollar environment,” Lynn Song, Greater China chief economist at ING, said in a note.
However, “we don’t expect an intentional large-scale depreciation and think the yuan will remain a low-volatility currency vis-à-vis most other Asian currencies.”
The yuan was changing hands at 7.2549 per dollar around midday,
little moved from the previous close.
Although the currency has rebounded from a one-year low
of 7.2996 hit on Tuesday, it is poised to register its longest weekly losing
streak since 2018. The dollar index fell to one-week low overnight and
“the USD’s consolidation should unwind the upside pressure building” in the yuan, aided by ongoing attempts by China’s central bank to restrain its decline, said Alvin Tan,
strategist at RBC Capital Markets.
Recent data has painted a mixed picture of China’s economic recovery, with manufacturing activities improving, but property sales in many Chinese cities remaining weak.
China’s “economic landscape is unarguably dull, and the absence of excitement is perhaps the most salient feature,” said John Browning, managing director of BANDS
Financial.
He doesn’t expect huge stimulus to be announced during
next week’s Central Economic Work Conference, as
“Beijing’s largesse will be reserved until after Trump is restored to the White House and the trade war formally begins.” Top policymakers
will gather at the conference to agree on major economic
goals for next year.
But the target for 2025 growth, one of the most closely-watched indicators globally for clues of Beijing’s near-term
policy intentions, likely will not be officially announced until an annual
parliament meeting in March. During Trump’s first term as
president, the yuan weakened about 5% against the dollar after the initial round of U.S.
tariffs on Chinese goods in 2018, and fell another 1.5% a year later
when trade tensions escalated. Growth worries and
expectations of further monetary easing by Beijing
pushed China’s 10-year treasury yields below 2% to record lows this week, worsening the yield disadvantage against
the U.S., and exerting downward pressure on the yuan. ING’s
Song expects the onshore yuan to move within a band between 7.00-7.40 per
dollar, but could fall further to 7.50 “if tariffs come in earlier or more aggressive than our forecasts.” LEVELS AT 03:47 GMT GMT INSTRUME CURRENT UP/DOWN( % CHANGE

There is something reassuringly robust about The Punch Bowl
Inn. Not just in the old-fashioned bar, where the Wainwright Gold is well kept
and a huge leather sofa sits before a blazing wood burner; or in the dining room, solid and comfortable, with its old beams, well-trodden wooden floors and tables unadorned with cloths; it’s in the menu, too, mainly British with a Gallic burr, that makes full use of the magnificent local Lake
District larder.
Stornoway black pudding with crispy egg and bubble and squeak:
‘pure Cumbrian comfort by way of Lewis’, is
Tom’s verdict
We’re here with Peter Gott, that great Cumbrian hero,
and the man behind Sillfield Farm, who has invited me up to cook at the Westmorland County Show; also chef Phil Vickery, who certainty knows his alliums;
and the force of nature that is Lorraine Stanton, something
of a legend around these parts. But first dinner, and a sublime twice-baked Mrs Kirkham’s cheese soufflé,
the texture as light as a sigh, the flavour profoundly, lasciviously rich.
Mrs Kirkham’s, now made by her son Graham, is one of
the world’s great cheeses, and this is a soufflé of quiet majesty.
A mushroom soup is equally splendid, managing to be both light and gutsy,
while Stornoway black pudding with bubble and squeak and a deep-fried egg is pure Cumbrian comfort by way
of Lewis.
There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched by
assured technical precision. Duck à l’orange sees a plump breast cooked rare,
the skin crisp, the sauce just the right side
of bitter. It comes with a fat potato fondant and cabbage spiked with
shards of smoked bacon. I eat rump of lamb, four vast just-pink slices, drenched in the stickiest, most gloriously intense of gravies; by its side, a tiny shepherd’s
pie, one bite of pure ovine brilliance.
Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart, beautifully
sharp, with damson sorbet (this part of the Lake District is famed
for its damsons); along with a banana soufflé, this time the classic version but
ethereal, served with vanilla ice cream and a pot of sticky-toffee sauce to pour deep into its molten centre.
This is good old-fashioned food, immaculately done, in the sort of
