It’s Migraine Awareness Week, and I’ve been living with migraines for many years, I’ve learned some valuable tips and tricks that help me manage the pain and symptoms when an attack strikes. In this post, I’ll be sharing some of my go-to migraine relief hacks that you can use to make your experience more manageable.

Sensory Deprivation Gadgets for Migraine Relief

One of the best things I’ve found for relieving the discomfort of a migraine attack at home is sensory deprivation. By blocking out external stimuli, I can reduce the intensity of the pain and help my body rest. Here are some of my favorite tools:

  • Earplugs: These help to block out loud or distracting noises that can exacerbate a migraine. My favourites are my Loop Quiets
  • Eye Mask: A soft, comfortable eye mask that blocks out light has been a game-changer for me, especially since light sensitivity is a common migraine trigger.

Both of these gadgets create a calm, quiet environment that allows me to rest and recover more quickly.

Cooling Gadgets for Targeted Migraine Relief

Cooling products have always been a staple in my migraine relief toolkit. The cooling effect helps to soothe the pain and inflammation that often accompany an attack. Here are a few items I swear by:

  • Ice Packs & Headbands: I have a few different types of ice packs, including headbands specifically designed for headaches and migraines. These are perfect for providing relief to the forehead and neck areas. My favourite is the Koldtec Headache Halo. You can use code JENNISAVE10 for $10 off.
  • Weighted Ice Packs: These offer extra comfort with the added benefit of weight, which can help calm my nervous system and reduce pain. My favourite is from Releaf pack.
  • Ice Roller: This is especially helpful when I need targeted relief. I can roll it over the areas that need the most attention, such as my temples or the back of my neck.

Cooling gadgets like these can make a world of difference, especially during a severe migraine attack.

On-the-Go Migraine Hacks

Migraines don’t always give you a heads-up, and they can strike at any time. That’s why I make sure to carry a few essential migraine relief items with me wherever I go. Here’s what I always have in my bag:

  • Sunglasses: Bright lights can worsen migraine symptoms, so I always have a pair of dark sunglasses to protect my eyes when I’m out and about.
  • Noise-Cancelling Headphones or Earplugs: These are essential when I need to block out loud noises, whether I’m in a crowded place or trying to escape the noise of everyday life.
  • Ginger Boiled Sweets: Nausea is a common symptom of migraines, and ginger is a natural remedy that helps ease the discomfort.
  • Instant Ice Pack & Self-Heating Eye Mask: An instant ice pack is a lifesaver when I need immediate cooling relief, and a self-heating eye mask helps relieve tension around my eyes and forehead.

These items are a must-have in my migraine survival kit, and they help me stay prepared when migraines strike unexpectedly.

Living with migraines can be incredibly challenging, but with the right tools and strategies, you can manage symptoms more effectively. These are just a few of the hacks I’ve discovered over the years that help me cope with migraine attacks.
