Bathroom Hacks

Managing a disability or chronic illness often means finding creative ways to adapt daily routines. One of the first areas I had to adjust was my bathroom routine, particularly showering and hair care. Here are my top bathroom hacks and tools that make keeping clean easier, safer, and more manageable.

Adapting your bathroom routine doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Small changes and the right tools can make a huge difference in your comfort and independence. Whether it’s investing in a shower stool or simply switching to pump bottles, these hacks can help take the stress out of self-care.

Shower Stool

A shower stool is an absolute game-changer. Sitting down in the shower takes the pressure off your joints and helps reduce the risk of dizziness, fatigue, or falls. I couldn’t manage without mine, and it’s one of the simplest ways to make your shower routine more accessible.

Grab Rails

Grab rails provide extra support for getting in and out of the shower and offer something sturdy to lean on while washing your hair. The great news is that modern grab rails come in stylish designs that blend seamlessly into your bathroom decor, so they don’t have to look clinical or out of place.

Silicone Shampoo Brush

Applying shampoo or conditioner can be tough if you experience pain in your fingers or hands. A silicone shampoo brush helps reduce the strain and makes it much easier to massage products into your scalp if you have hypermobility or limited dexterity.

Pump Bottles

Pump bottles are a simple but effective hack. They make it much easier to dispense products without squeezing or struggling with caps. Many products come in pump bottles, or you can purchase empty ones and transfer your favourite shampoos, conditioners, and body washes into them.

Brushing Hair in the Shower

Brushing your hair while you’ve got conditioner on in the shower makes detangling much easier and less painful. It’s a simple step that can save you time and effort when you get out.

Long African Exfoliating Net

This versatile exfoliating net makes it easy to clean hard-to-reach areas. It can be used in various ways and dries much faster than a loofah, reducing the risk of bacteria and mould buildup. It’s a hygienic and effective alternative for exfoliation.
